Battalion_Lion I was initially worried Shade Empire failed to live up to their previous two albums, but I got to speak with Henry Hämäläinen himself on Reddit. He opened me to a new perspective. What I love about Shade Empire is still here, but there're new elements blended into their sound now. It's evolving as it did between 2008 and 2013. The orchestral tracks show Sunholy is instrumentally rich; even its backing tracks are complete songs. Sunholy is different, but this is still the Shade Empire I love. Favorite track: Maroon.

Mixed by Chris Edrich (Devin Townsend, Leprous, Alcest) and mastered by Pierrick Noël (Klone), with Fleshgod Apocalypse‘s Francesco Ferrini responsible for the orchestrations and Andy Reich at Collapse Of Art completing the artwork, Sunholy is a long-aged piece of art and labour of love. Embodying the most comprehensive Shade Empire effort to date, the lyrics are thematically inspired by the Jonestown tragedy, a mass murder-suicide of the Peoples Temple cult, but there’s also a fuller contemplation and exploration of the current state of the world.

I never cared about symphonic metal at all. I do very much care about folk as well as progressive metal, and so I couldn't resist after reading the third exceptional AMG review for Wilderun in a row. 'Sleep...' has been on my radar for quite some time, being graced by one of the most beckoning cover arts I have ever seen. The band more than lives up to its reputation, composing great musical pieces from start to finish. I absolutely love the multitude of influences being put together here. David Fischer
